Len Woods - Certified Instructor

I was introduced to firearms at an early age. I received my first NRA certified instructor rating in 1994. I have continued my training as well as becoming a certified Sig Sauer instructor. I have a passion for all the shooting sports but really enjoy the precision rifle sports, like PRS, Benchrest and F class. The ability to put multiple rounds through the same hole at long distances fascinates me. I have been the Instructor at Uncoiled since they opened the range. I love working with new shooters. Really enjoy watching their progress. We offer classes for every skill level. From beginner to advanced shooter, we have a class for you. Our class reviews speak for themselves. Looking forward to seeing you in class.

Michigan Concealed Pistol License

Our class will teach you the knowledge, skills and proper attitude for carrying a firearm. How to choose the right handgun, legal responsibilities, CPL laws and much more!

Your class includes range time, gun rental, ammo and lunch.
The entire day is completed in one location with no hidden fees.

Class starts promptly at 8 AM and goes to 4 PM. If late you may be rescheduled to another class.

2-Day classes also available from 5 PM to 9 PM each night. Check schedule for availability.

Next Step Defensive Pistol Class

We will teach you how to draw safely from concealment, emergency reloads and tactical reloads and how to clear a malfunction quickly. We will do live fire drills on the range. By the end of the night you should be able to draw and fire 2 rounds in under 2 seconds.

Put your defensive skills to the test against a timer. Drills will change from class to class. You will learn to shoot while moving and using available cover. Emergency reloading and failure drills will also be taught.

This is NOT a class for a new or inexperienced shooter.
You are encouraged to take Next step 1 prior to Next step 2.

Next Step 3 Defensive Pistol Class

Concealed Pistol License Refresher Course

Michigan 3 hour CPL refresher course. We will cover firearms and the law, including civil liability issues and the use of deadly force. Avoiding criminal attack and controlling a violent confrontation. All laws that apply to carrying a concealed pistol in Michigan. A certificate will be issued at the end of class.

Range time is NOT included in the fee for this course. Any range/shooting time requirements that you need to fulfill must be completed at a separate time, if necessary.  You are required to have completed at least 1 hour of range time in the 6 months preceding your renewal application.

Focus on the Fundamentals

This class will focus the fundamentals that make you a better shooter. You will work on things like sight picture, sight alignment, trigger squeeze, breath control and follow-through. We will spend time on the Virtual range before we go out to the live range.

A pistol will be provided if you do not own your own yet. Range time is included but you must provide at least 50 rounds of ammunition.

This is a hands on, one on one class. Registration is limited.

Introduction to the AR-15 Platform

The AR-15 platform rifle is the most popular center fire rifle on the market today. It is based on the US military M-16 and M4 Carbine platform, but is semi-auto only. People who shoot AR-15 rifles do it for a variety of reasons, fun target shooting, precision target shooting, competition, and hunting. It is a modular constructed rifle allowing owners to change components to fit their needs. One can even build a custom AR-15 by buying all the components and assembling the rifle themselves. The AR-15 is a rifle that becomes a hobby in its self. Owners accessorize their guns with all sorts of goodies. There is nothing better than shooting a rifle that you personalize.

Our class is called INTRODUCTION TO THE AR-15, and is designed for beginners [first-time buyers]. This Three hour session will introduce shooters to the basics of the AR-15 platform. 

In this class you will learn:

  • Safe handling of the AR-15 rifle
  • Demonstration of disassembly, field strip basics
  • Cleaning and maintenance 
  • Live fire of 20 rounds of ammunition
  • Easy upgrades to improve the handling and performance.

Class includes a cleaning kit and cleaning mat.

Bring your AR-15 but leave the ammunition in your car until told to get it.

Shoot/Don't Shoot Scenario Training

This class will be all simulator work. You will interact with a video on the screen. How you handle the situation will determine the ending. This will be a shoot / don’t shoot type of class. There will be no live fire in this class.

NSSF First Shots Class

This class is designed to introduce new and beginning pistol shooters to proper safety rules and firearm techniques. This class will teach you time tested fundamentals proven by champion hand gunners. Learn to shoot in a judgment-free, stress-free environment with emphasis placed on safety and handgun fundamentals. It is better to learn the proper way initially than to overcome years of bad habits.
 
CLASS TOPICS: Safety, Gun Selection, Grip, Stance, Sight Picture, Trigger Control, Follow Through, Breath Control, and Drills.
 
ARE THERE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS? You must be at least 18 years old to take this class by yourself. Patrons 11-17 years of age may take the class with adult supervision.
 
WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS CLASS? Whether just beginning, or you’ve shot a few hundred rounds, you will benefit from this fundamentals class. Sometimes we have the tendency to get complacent in our routines. Complacency often leads to bad habits without us even realizing it. This class will give you the opportunity to have an experienced shooter give you some valuable feedback as you begin this fun, life-long sport.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? Due to a burn risk from ejected brass, do not wear open toed shoes, loose fitting clothing, or low-cut tops or tank tops.

Predator Hunting Seminar

Gear up for the ultimate hunt. Whether you are chasing Coyotes, Raccoons or Bobcats, we will cover everything you need to know about getting into Predator hunting, including: Thermal vs Night Vision, Electronic Game Callers, Rifle/Caliber choices, and even discussing how to gain permission to hunt properties. We carry a large array of the gear you’ll need. Let us take you to Predator School with our years of accumulated knowledge.

Ladies Night

Ladies Night includes the use of the range, hand gun rentals, targets, eye and ear protection. We’ll even offer you assistance/guidance if you are a new shooter or just want some pointers on the range. Ladies are responsible for providing their own ammo. Ammo is available for purchase.

Ladies will have the opportunity to try out our shooting simulator. This simulator teaches pistol fundamentals and it is a great first step if you are hesitant about shooting live rounds.

At Uncoiled, we understand that everyone operates at different comfort levels. We will gladly work with you to feel confident and comfortable as you gain experience.

Gun Cleaning Class

This hands-on handgun maintenance class will teach you how to perform cleaning, inspection, lubrication, function testing and other basics of firearms maintenance. Prepare to get your hands a little dirty as we take your dirty handgun and return it to a ready-to-fire condition. Please bring your cleaning kit. if you do not have one, they can be purchased before class at a discount.
